Net sales reached $3,468 million, a $115 million increase compared to $3,353 million in the prior year. The growth was attributed to favorable net price realization (3.1%) and favorable FX translation (0.6%), partially offset by unfavorable volume/mix (0.3%).
Gross profit rose to $1,940 million, up $196 million or 11.2% from $1,744 million in the prior year. Gross margin improved to 55.9%, a 390 bps increase, driven by net sales growth, earned equity from distribution agreements, and improvements in ingredients, materials, and productivity.
Net income decreased by $13 million, or 2.8%, to $454 million, compared to $467 million in the prior year. This decline was primarily due to increased interest expense and unfavorable changes in the effective tax rate, offsetting the increase in income from operations.
