Packaging Corporation of America (PCA) is the third-largest producer of containerboard products and a leading producer of uncoated freesheet (UFS) paper in North America. They operate eight mills and 86 corrugated products plants, primarily in the United States, serving a wide range of industries, with a focus on regional and local accounts. PCA's competitive advantage stems from its integrated operations, sustainable practices, and strong customer relationships.
Net sales increased to $8.4 billion in 2024 from $7.8 billion in 2023, primarily due to higher volumes in the Packaging and Paper segments. Packaging segment sales rose by $555 million, and Paper segment sales increased by $29 million.
Net income increased to $805 million in 2024 from $765 million in 2023. However, net income included $9 million of expense for special items in 2024 and $19 million in 2023. Excluding these items, net income was $814 million in 2024, compared to $784 million in 2023.
Packaging segment operating income improved to $1,102 million in 2024, compared to $1,074 million in 2023. This was driven by higher volumes and lower freight and logistic expenses, partially offset by lower containerboard and corrugated products prices and higher operating and converting costs.
